To celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary Mr Rock Bakehouse and I went to Istanbul for a long weekend. A lot of people rave about it and we were looking for somewhere that we hadn’t been to before but would also warm in June. We got a great deal on BA holidays and flew out on the first flight on a Friday to make the most of the weekend.
I love getting recommendations from people who have been to places as my pet hate is wandering around trying to guess and avoid the really touristy places. Some friends recommended The Four Seasons Hotel and although it looked swanky we thought it would be great for lunch on our anniversary. So after climbing the Galata Tower (and rushing around as I was petrified being on a balcony high up about the city) we took a taxi to the hotel.
Just outside the main attractions of Istanbul the Four Seasons is close to other upmarket hotels (and miles from our quirky little hotel!). A beautiful entrance with amazing flowers welcomed us and we were led to the large terrace where there were various tables and sofas. Obviously the front row tables were taken but we were pretty happy with a sofa table enjoying the view and surroundings.
I decided to start off with a lemonade with fresh mint which came beautifully presented in a science style beaker and the amazing thing was that there was so much of it. Really refreshing and didn’t leave that furry funny aftertaste that some fresh lemonades can leave.
We then opted for a meze (when in rome and all that!) which again came nicely presented and tasted amazing. The hummus was delicious, the aubergine potato and tomato salad was really fresh and the lamb meatballs were little balls of BBQ goodness. What was even better was that for the first time in Istanbul we got really nice flat breads rather than old toasted baguette, which we seemed to get everywhere else we went to!
Finally I decided to go for dessert and had a pistachio roulade with vanilla cream and fruit puree topped with fresh berries which was so so good! Really light and fresh and a perfect dessert for a hot summers day.
The hotel is beautiful and yes you could be pretty much anywhere with a nice view but the food was great, service was also very friendly and I would definitely go back in a flash!
