Healthier Granola Recipe

I always thought that granola was healthy, well in comparison to Coco Pops or Crunchy Nut Cornflakes but how wrong was I!  So I decided to make some ‘healthier’ granola and found ‘Deliciously Ella’s recipe which contains no processed sugars.

I made quite a few changes from the original recipe adding extra oats, my own seed and nut choices and I also substituted the coconut oil for olive oil as I’m not a coconut fan.  So really I change the majority of it but I used the recipe as inspiration!!

In comparison to shop bought granola it’s a lot less sweet, which I was surprisingly ok with, but it’s also a lot more expensive to make so I was rationing Mr Rock Bakehouse as his cereal portions are huge!  Definitely worth trying out, though next time I do I’ll add the sultanas in later or once it’s ‘cooked’ as I ended up with a lot of charcoal sultanas which weren’t so nice!

I enjoyed mine with natural yoghurt and fresh fruit which kept me going until lunchtime.  Now to find a healthier afternoon snack that doesn’t consist on chocolate biscuits!!

285g oats

100g pumpkin seeds

100g sunflower seeds

90g flaked almonds

290g sultanas

4 tablespoons maple syrup

1 tablespoon olive oil


1. Place the maple syrup and oil in a pan and heat gently until fully combined

2. In a large bowl mix the rest of the ingredients and then stir through the syrup mixture mixing until all the pieces are covered with the sticky syrup

3. Spread out on a baking tray and cook for 20 minutes at 170

4. Stir throughout the baking to ensure it’s baking evenly

*Note: I found that the sultanas burnt quite a bit so I would definitely recommend either adding them once the mix is nearly ready or once it’s out of the oven.
